Fundraising & Marketing Assistant

Job description & Person Specification

Contract term: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £15,500 to £16,500 (depending on experience)

Responsible to: Fundraiser, Communications & Marketing Officer and Head of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications

Probationary period: 6 months

Annual leave allocation: 28 days per year (inc. public bank holidays)

Location: Hen Central, Rose Ash, South Molton

Main purpose of role: to support the Fundraising and Marketing team to achieve income and awareness objectives by carrying out administration duties.

Key tasks:

  • Provide administrative support to the Fundraising and Marketing team as required e.g. fielding telephone and email enquiries, collating and organising data to be mail-merged for mailings such as appeals
  • Assist in the administration and delivery of the BHWT’s Egg Club and Bake For Hens’ Sake!’ fundraising products
  • Assist in creating social media content across a range of platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube)
  • Ensure that all relevant supporter information is accurately and promptly recorded onto the CRM database
  • Work closely with the Communications & Marketing Officer to help collate content for social media, e-shots and BHWT’s supporter magazine Chicken & Egg and assist with website amends and additions as necessary
  • Work closely with the Communications & Marketing Officer to help collate material for and prepare fundraising newsletters such as Good Eggs
  • Assist the Communications & Marketing Officer with press releases for regional press
  • Thank supporters for donations made via the BHWT online shop
  • Assist with the inputting and reconciling of single and recurring donations from PayPal, JustGiving and Rapidata reports
  • Liaise with individuals and businesses who would like a charity collection tin and manage database of our collection tins
  • Act as the main contact for supporters who would like to join the BHWT’s Sponsor a Hen scheme; collating and sending out sponsorship packs and keeping in touch by thanking and sending updates on sponsored hens
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure compliance with best practice in GDPR
  • Monitor marketing inserts into Welcome Packs to re-homers

Person Specification

Essential key skills and experience:

  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written and ability to relate to people at all levels
  • Proactive and highly organised, with good attention to detail
  • Previous experience working in a fundraising, marketing or sales environment
  • Good written skills, both creative and grammatical
  • Experience of using a CRM database, ideally Salesforce
  • Enjoy working as part of a busy team
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and manage own time effectively
  • Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Flexibility and willing to adapt to change and learning new skills
  • Experience or knowledge of hen or animal welfare
  • Full driving license and access to a car
  • Empathy with the aims of the charity

Desirable key skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Awareness of GDPR changes in legislation
  • Knowledge of CRM systems
