Olivia – from Mel Lazenby
We always celebrate our girls’ birthdays in the Lazenby household.
It’s such an achievement to reach their first year ‘henniversary’ after their retirement, so we always have cake, usually a Dutch apple cake. We celebrate every year thereafter too.
Last year we had another lucky lady Olivia reach one year of freedom. Olivia is a larger than life character, she came to us with a dislocated leg; it was an old injury in her stifle joint, which is loose, causing her leg to usually face backwards.
When my vet first saw her, she was worried she wouldn’t make it, I also had an uncomfortable feeling that she might be right. Thankfully we were both wrong. She celebrated her first birthday last June and has since screamed and shouted her way to the position of top hen!
Olivia has now been here for year and half, making her actual age, around three. So, we shall celebrate her half year birthday, have cake as normal, and also raise a glass to a very special little girl.
She may not move around in a conventional way, but we love her all the more for it.
Happy henniversary Olivia, here’s to many more to come.
