The start of June also marks the start of Volunteers’ Week so we would like to take the opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to all our volunteers.
They do an incredible job for us and work so hard to help all our lovely hens. They’re often up at the crack of dawn to spend their weekend saving hens from slaughter and sometimes don’t get home until 12 hours later, covered in hen poo! It is great to know we have such dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers without whom we simply would not be able to operate.
Hen poo aside, volunteering for us is an incredibly rewarding thing to do and we’d love to have more people on board!
As you may know already we are looking for more volunteers to help us in Swansea, Carmarthenshire, all 3 of our Scotland sites, Herefordshire and South Molton. The roles range from general hands on help at farms and on re-homing days to transport volunteers, co-ordinator and team leader. For more information please visit this page.
The British Hen Welfare Trust is also looking for volunteers to support a new learning programme for schools and other educational and care settings. Learning volunteer will lead workshops to help primary school pupils (aged 4 – 11) explore egg production and animal welfare topics and gain the knowledge and skills to make food choices that are healthy for both themselves and for farmed animals.
Most learning volunteers will have their own hens and be willing to take one or two of them to schools to meet the pupils. Please email email@example.com for more information.
We are also attending Country File Live at Blenheim Palace again this year. Last year was a great show with lots of interest from the public and a great opportunity to chat about chickens all day! Please let me know if you would like to help us at the show by emailing Corinne.firstname.lastname@example.org.
