Our future depends on our supporters’ kindness and generosity, so I’m delighted to tell
you that our Egg Club is flying! Thanks everyone who has signed up to utilise the goodwill
of your ladies to help those less privileged. You are really making a difference and we
will be allocating funds from our Egg Club to directly help more hens. Here are some of
our newest recruits:
Carol and John Pickering from Danes Hill near Axminster have been keeping BHWT
ex-bats for about seven years now and currently have a flock of 24; they set up ‘Danes
Hill Dames’ and have raised £146 so far. Carol
and John adore their hens and love how they
have blossomed in their new lifestyle; they
share the domestics of hen care with John
doing the early shift at 6.30am and Carol
following up with egg collection duty,
cleaning and the bedtime routine. Surplus
eggs are given to friends in return for
donations to the BHWT so we can help other
hens enjoy the same retirement – it’s rather a
lovely circle, don’t you agree?
Lucy Walker started an Egg Club called
'Guinevere's Girls’. Why Guinevere’s Girls?
Because Lucy works at Camelot, operator of
the National Lottery! Lucy’s colleagues at
Camelot kindly help to raise funds through
their donations, and Lucy is pleased to be
able to help change the luck for more ladies.
Lucy took in nine lovely hens in March who
have settled well and are getting used to the
latest family additions, two young alpacas
called Felix and Nimrod, whose job it is to
protect the hens from foxy.
