Chicken & Egg Issue 11 - page 5

Chicken & Egg is a publication by
The British Hen Welfare Trust
The British Hen Welfare Trust is a national charity that re-homes commercial laying hens,
educates the public about how they can make a difference to hen welfare, and
encourages support for the British egg industry. Its ultimate aim is to see consumers and food
manufacturers buying only UK produced free range eggs, resulting in a strong British egg industry where
all commercial laying hens enjoy a good quality life.

very close to our half a millionth hen –
Dee! So what’s not to like about a bit of damp discomfort when
I will soon be enjoying champagne with friends around a fire,
roasty toasty on the outside and warm and cosy on the inside.
Think big kid – definitely excited!
This issue is all about the future hopes for the charity: our
continued drive to widen appeal; our support for the British egg
industry; our exciting news on the veterinary front. We have our
turbo-charged Egg Club, the increasingly popular Advice Line,
it’s all inside, and points to a healthy future for the British Hen
Welfare Trust.
We have an interview with BHWT Patron, Jamie Oliver, fabulous
prizes including a cookery course to be won from River Cottage
and an in-depth interview with retailer, Aldi, which may surprise
Throw into the mix our usual crop of fun fundraisers, gorgeous
gallery and heartwarming stories and I hope you will agree
we’ve rounded our celebratory 10
anniversary year off just
I’ll pipe down and let you read on … but I do just want to add
my warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks to everyone who has
supported the charity to date.
