Cracking way to live until you’re 117 – eat eggs!

If you, like most of us, are in search of the secret to a long and health life, it has today been revealed by the world’s oldest woman.

Emma Morano has today celebrated her 117th birthday – an age most of us can only dream of.

And what is her secret, we hear you ask? Eating three eggs – two of them raw – every day for the past 90 years!

We think Emma has excellent taste buds, and is living proof of the benefit of eating eggs – though they must be free range of course!

Eggs provide a whole host of nutritional benefits, and recent research even suggested that eating one a day can reduce your risk of a stroke by 12%!

The humble egg contains up to six grams of protein and only 80 calories, making it a healthy and tasty way to start the day (and end it if you are like Emma!).

Jane Howorth MBE, founder of the British Hen Welfare Trust, said: “I’ve always shouted about how fantastic eggs are so it’s amazing to hear someone as remarkable as Emma singing their praises too. While there are undoubtedly other reasons she has reached the grand age of 117, eggs have clearly played their part in keeping her healthy.

“There is, in my opinion, no better way to start the day than with a couple of eggs, be it fried, poached, scrambled or otherwise and by adopting some ex-caged hens from us you can have a fresh supply on a daily basis!”

The charity is re-homing in locations across the country in December. Just visit our website, www.bhwt.org.uk, for a full list and call 01884 860084 if you’d like to re-home your own hens and eat fresh eggs every day.
