Our Corporate Partners
Working together to help hens
The BHWT work in partnership with a range of companies and brands who help us to raise awareness of hen welfare and support our vital work. In return, the BHWT can help our corporate partners reach a completely new audience of hen-lovers.
Ways of working together include ‘Charity of the Year’, on-pack fundraising, corporate sponsorship, providing gifts in kind, advertising in our magazine and volunteer fundraising. We only work with companies and brands which fully support high welfare for laying hens.

Smallholder Range
We have worked in partnership with Norfolk-based Smallholder Range since 2008. Their Natural Free-Range Layers Crumble and Natural Free-Range Layers Pellets are ideal for hens and supply them with a balanced, highly nutritional diet. We recommend them for ex-commercial hens as it is a similar feed to what that are used to when being rehomed. You can purchase their feed on our shop website.
Smallholder Range offers vital support through regular donations, raising thousands of pounds each year for the charity.
Smallholder Range is an innovative, family-owned, national company with four generations of experience. Using only the very finest ingredients, the Smallholder Range provides well-balanced feeds designed for animals being raised naturally. They pride themselves on making natural feed without artificial growth promoters or artificial yolk pigmenters. Their mill is totally drug-free – no antibiotics, coccidiostats or growth promoters.
All feeds in the Smallholder Range are approved by the Vegetarian Society and are free from animal by-products. They only select the highest quality vegetable oils and the vitamins they use are not covered in the traditional gelatine coating. Only products formulated without genetically modified ingredients are approved by the Vegetarian Society.
We are proud to have such a long association with the British Hen Welfare Trust and pleased to be feeding the nation’s ex-bats. Call our Helpline for nutrition support on 01362 822904.

It is available on our online shop in two pack sizes – 100 litres and 50 litres.
Dengie raises £5,000 for the British Hen Welfare Trust every year through the sale of Fresh Bed for Chickens.

The Happy Egg Co.
Our friends at The Happy Egg Company are the largest supplier of free-range eggs in the UK. Teaming up with The Happy Egg Company is a wonderful way to get our joint messages across to consumers and we are pleased to be working alongside such a strong and positive brand.
Here are some happy facts from The Happy Egg Company:
- Over 500 million eggs are laid for The Happy Egg Company every year!
- Their feed recipe contains marigold and paprika. And the girls love it!
- They design special activity kits to help their girls do whatever comes naturally. Like perching, sheltering or having a catch-up. And, because hens love cleaning their feathers, we include dust baths on all our farms.

Higgidy
Higgidy have been using only free-range eggs in their recipes since they first started making pies in 2003. We joined forces with Higgidy to raise awareness of the use of free-range eggs in UK food manufacturing and they are huge supporters of the work we do.
We’re so proud to partner with such a dedicated and inspiring team. We are very careful about where we source our ingredients. Our main ingredients are all British. We place a high value on animal welfare and all our eggs are always free-range. The temptation is always to rush things, to make more pies more quickly. But we are serious about giving each stage of the process – and each ingredient – the time it takes to be perfect. One of the major ingredients in a Higgidy pie is definitely time.

Taken from Sophie’s popular chicken range, the BHWT mug uses the classic ‘Chicken & Egg’ design with the message ‘Happy Hens’ written in Sophie’s recognisable handwriting and featuring the charity’s logo. You can own this very special mug buy purchasing it on the shop website.
