Working together to give hens better lives
We’re proud to work with a wide range of organisations and brands to raise awareness and funds for our life-saving work. Partnerships help us reach more hens, support our volunteers, and make a real difference, and they bring benefits for the organisations we work with too.
Our partners
Small Holder Feed
We have worked together with Norfolk-based Small Holder Feed since 2008. Their Natural Free Range Layers Crumble and Natural Free Range Layers Pellets provide a premium, complete feed that is nutritionally balanced. We recommend Natural Free Range Layers Crumble for ex-commercial hens, as it has a similar texture to the type of feed they would have eaten on the farm. You can purchase Small Holder Feeds on our shop website.
Small Holder Feed offers vital support through regular donations, raising thousands of pounds each year to help hens.
Small Holder Feed is an innovative, family-owned company with over four generations of experience. Using only the very finest ingredients, Small Holder Feed provides well-balanced feeds designed for birds being raised naturally. They pride themselves on making natural feed without artificial growth promoters or artificial yolk pigmenters. Their mill is totally drug free – no antibiotics, coccidiostats or growth promoters.
All Small Holder Feed products approved by the Vegetarian Society and free from animal by-products; the vitamins they use are not covered in a pork gelatine coating. They only select the highest quality vegetable oils and linseed for Omega 3, and their products are formulated without genetically modified ingredients.
“We are proud to have such a long association with the British Hen Welfare Trust and pleased to be feeding the nation’s ex-bats. If you have any questions about feeding your ex-commercial hens, our friendly, multi-award winning Nutrition Team is happy to help. Call 01362 822904 or email helpline@smallholderfeed.co.uk.”

Dengie
Dengie is the UK’s leading manufacturer of fibre-based horse feeds and the largest producer of alfalfa, which forms the foundation of its extensive product range. The company has also proudly held a Royal Warrant since 2007.
In partnership with the British Hen Welfare Trust, Dengie has developed a specialised bedding designed specifically for hens. Fresh Bed for Chickens helps keep your flock warm and comfortable, with features including:
- Chopped, dust-extracted straw bedding, ideal for all hens

- Easy disposal, composting far quicker than shavings or wood pellets and producing excellent compost for your garden
Fresh Bed for Chickens is available in two convenient pack sizes – 100 litres and 50 litres – through our online shop.
“We are incredibly proud to support the British Hen Welfare Trust. Their dedication to improving the lives of hens across the UK aligns perfectly with our own values, and we’re delighted to play a part in their important work.”

Omlet
Omlet sells a great selection of chicken keeping equipment, poultry supplies, chicken health products and chicken-keeping accessories. From their modern plastic chicken coops to their traditional wooden chicken arks, they have a range of coops for all size flocks. The Eglu Cube Chicken Coop is ideal for up to 10 chickens whereas the Eglu Go is perfect as a starter hen house for 2-3 birds.
Our partnership with Omlet is ever developing and we are always involved in a range of initiatives to continue our work with them. Two examples of this is their sponsorship of our ‘Hentroduction pack’, a guide aimed at new hen owners, and supplying hen housing to accommodate hens in prisons around the UK.
We didn’t think anyone could love chickens more than us until we met Jane and the team at the British Hen Welfare Trust!

Higgidy
Higgidy have been using only free-range eggs in their recipes since they first started making pies in 2003. We joined forces with Higgidy to raise awareness of the use of free-range eggs in UK food manufacturing and they are huge supporters of the work we do.
“We’re so proud to partner with such a dedicated and inspiring team. We are very careful about where we source our ingredients. Our main ingredients are all British. We place a high value on animal welfare and all our eggs are always free-range. The temptation is always to rush things, to make more pies more quickly. But we are serious about giving each stage of the process – and each ingredient – the time it takes to be perfect. One of the major ingredients in a Higgidy pie is definitely time.”
Camilla, Higgidy
