Project Vicky

We’re delighted to announce that work has begun on our new hen welfare and education centre – affectionately named, Project Vicky.

The ground breaking ceremony was held on Monday, 15 April which also happened to be our 14th anniversary.

Situated just metres from Hen Central in Rose Ash, North Devon, the 250 square metre contemporary building will offer a state-of-the-art rehoming centre, as well as provide space for educational talks and demonstrations.

We will also have a fully-equipped veterinary clinic and have access to specialist veterinary surgeons to treat any chicken that requires extra care and attention.

The charity was established in 1995 by our Founder, Jane. In her first batch of hens rescued from slaughter was Vicky … Jane and Vicky developed a deep connection and her memory will be immortalised in our new unique project.

We know how proud Vicky would be of all that is being achieved in her name.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it always: Project Vicky would not have become a reality without you – our supporters.

It’s thanks to your generous donations, hen adoptions, bake sales, egg sales, running and so much more, that we are creating a centre designed solely with hens in mind.

Now, on to the most exciting bit…

We would love you to join us on this incredible journey which is why, as of now, you can watch the centre taking shape before your very eyes thanks to our time lapse camera.

It will be capturing images Monday to Friday as the build progresses so, if you have a spare five minutes during the day, tune in and see what’s happening.

We will – of course – update you as the build progresses, so keep an eye on our social channels for news and please leave us encouraging comments!
