It rained on Jane’s parade but winning a Woman & Home Award can’t dampen our spirits

Late in September, after we’d finish the last issue of Fresh Laid News, our Founder and Mother Hen, Jane Howorth, won Woman&Home’s 2020 Amazing Woman Award! See the fun pictures from the photo shoot and learn why Woman&Home chose her.

Sometime in early August 2020, Jane Howorth, founder of the British Hen Welfare Trust received a call that changed her whole day: she learned she’d been nominated for, and won, Woman&Home’s 2020 Amazing Woman Award.

Jane won the category for “Don’t tell me I can’t” for her tireless work to improve the lives of ex-caged hens and hen welfare.

Woman&Home noted that “In a particularly challenging year, we are especially proud to celebrate the achievements of 10 fabulous women whose inspirational work pushes boundaries, broadens minds, changes lives and improves our world.” And we can attest that Jane is certainly one of those kinds of women.

Catching her breath, Jane says of winning the award “I’m just the lucky person that gets to be nominated, this would not have happened if it wasn’t for everyone else involved, in whatever capacity, with the charity – that makes us all amazing I reckon!”

The next thing Jane learned from the editor was that the magazine wanted to send a photographer, a makeup artist, and a stylist to her home to shoot her with her hens for the award spread. So on a wet August afternoon punctuated with summer downpours, dressed in a “art director” pre-selected wardrobe of white jeans and a teal velvet jacket, Jane led the way out to the hen house and mayhem ensued with hens, rain and mud adding to the fun. Here are a few of the behind-the-scenes photos for you to enjoy.

We’ve always thought Jane was AMAZING, but now it’s official! You can read the full article here.
