Ruth Wright and Keith McDevitt will soon be lacing up their trainers and pounding the pavement when they run 26.2 miles, all to raise funds for ex-caged hens.
With the Virgin London Marathon being cancelled for mass participation last October, for obvious reasons, many people were left disheartened that they couldn’t compete.
This year, however, the 2021 London Marathon is going virtual, and Ruth and Keith have seized the opportunity to take on a challenge and raise funds for the BHWT.
For those of you, like us, who weren’t sure how someone could run 26.2 miles virtually, let us explain. Virgin Money’s page says, “It’s the opportunity to take on the world’s greatest marathon on the course of their choice from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59BST, wherever they are in the world.”
Fifty thousand people have signed up to take part in the event on October 3rd. All of those people, like Ruth and Keith, will be taking to their local parks or tracks, pounding the streets where they live or even running on their trusty treadmill for 26.2 miles.
Our two runners have received their official running numbers in preparation for the run, now all they need is some much-needed support for.
A little bit about our runners…

Keith tells us that he got involved with the BHWT through his wife’s love of hens, calling her his “crazy chicken lady”.
But she’s no longer the only one crazy about chickens. Ever since getting their girls, Keith has adored their ever-growing flock and now wants to do his bit by running the Virgin London Marathon this year.
He tells us:
“They are such curious and individual creatures, easy to look after and are indeed a joy to have in the family and that’s why I am supporting the BHWT”.
