Egg Club interview

Our Egg Club is the perfect circle of hens helping hens. It raises money by swapping donations for your hens’ surplus eggs which, in turn, is donated back to us thereby helping fund our rehoming work – clucking brilliant!

But don’t just take our word for it. Here we interview Egg Club member Kat to find out what it’s like being part of our lifesaving initiative.

𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀?
I have been keeping hens for a couple of years now. While I might be a newbie to some, I have an animal care background, and chickens are by far my favourite!

𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯?
I heard about Egg Club whilst exploring the BHWT website! I thought what a wonderful idea! I immediately clicked the “join now” button.

𝟯. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻?
I thought it was a great way to raise funds for the BHWT and also a way of educating people. A lot of people that buy our eggs ask us a lot of questions about chickens in general and some have even adopted hens themselves off the back of this, which is even better.

𝟰. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿? 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 ‘𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀’?
We love it and we really like seeing who comes along and buys the eggs. It really does range, from children with their parents on the way home, to people walking their dogs! But we talk to most of them and they do come out of their way especially to buy our eggs!

𝟱. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆?
Yes, we love being part of it- as I am on the BHWT Egg Club map I have had enquiries from further afield and people have been coming to buy the eggs and see the girls over the fence!

𝟲. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲?
We get lots of customers but someone who really enjoys our girls eggs is quite a celebrity. It is the Winalot dog, called Dolly 😄 She loves having a raw egg in her dinner bowl.

I am looking forward to counting and seeing how much money we have raised for the BHWT! 🥚
