As the British Hen Welfare Trust celebrates its 20th birthday, will you help save hens from slaughter with a regular gift?
There are less hens in cages than ever before largely thanks to our efforts raising awareness of the humble laying hen; while this is a huge success in improving conditions for the hens we cannot reach, the reality is that every one of the 43 million laying hens kept in the UK are sent to slaughter at 18 months old, regardless of how they were kept.
That’s why our work continues, so that we can give a second chance to caged, barn and free-range hens who, as we all know, have so much life left to give.
What will your money fund?
Whether you give £2 a month or £20, your money will be spent funding our rehoming mission which saves the lives of tens of thousands of hens each year, as well our work beyond the farm gate supporting vets, working with industry stakeholders such as DEFRA and continuing our essential Hen Helpline.

Meet Violet
This is Violet, who needed a little extra TLC after coming off the farm where she has been laying eggs dutifully day in, day out. She began her free-range retirement frightened of those around her trying to help, but soon settled into freedom and is now such a loving little hen who enjoys lap cuddles and regular treats.
She is living the life that we wish for every one of the hens we rehome, and that is only made possible by generous donations from supporters like you.
