Tatiana

Tatiana’s story

When Tatiana was saved from slaughter in 2018, she was completely bald. Her feathers soon grew back and with them came a newfound confidence. Tatiana – named because she was so tatty – is now a talkative and affectionate girl living in comfort in her own garden where she’s lavished with love and her favourite treats. She loves to roam free-range around the garden and adores her owners so much, she often ventures inside to see what they’re up to.

£5 a month helps us save thousands of ex-commercial hens from slaughter every year

Duchess’ story

Duchess was enjoying her life in south London when she developed a common and potentially fatal condition called sour crop. Her owners were left frustrated after being unable to get local vet support for their beloved pet. After the usually dynamic, friendly Duchess became increasingly listless, they contacted us for advice which was invaluable in dealing with the sour crop. She was soon on the mend and her owners were extremely grateful for her new lease of life.

£10 a month supports our Hen Helpline which takes hundreds of calls and emails about poorly chickens

Vera

Vera’s story

Vera had a respiratory condition. One day her owners found her struggling for every breath and took her to the vet. Fearing the worst, they said goodbye to their sweet little hen. Several minutes and one steroid injection later, Vera emerged transformed. Within weeks the wheezing had all but gone and she had a new zest for life; the first hen to leap out of the shed in the morning, ‘helping’ with gardening and never far from her beloved owners.

£15 a month helps us to continue developing our Improving Pet Hen Health research

I believe the BHWT can make a difference and the more we support the more we can make good things happen for hens. At least me doing a small thing every month makes me feel I am contributing with others to make a change for the better.

I know how much regular donations help charities and I only wish I could do more! I don't miss the relatively small deduction from my bank account and know that I can stop it at any time. I love helping the BHWT any way I can and this is just one way of doing it. Seeing the deduction each month is a reminder that I am doing something to help hens.

I give regularly to the BHWT as it’s a way of supporting the work they do long term, and by making it part of my monthly expenditure, it doesn’t even feel like much of a spend.

Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows British Hen Welfare Trust to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to British Hen Welfare Trust we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like British Hen Welfare Trust to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that British Hen Welfare Trust will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When British Hen Welfare Trust receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
