Could you help us fund a van for hens?
We’re appealing for your support today to help us buy a new, purpose-built van for transporting even more hens to a free-range retirement.
Many of our teams currently rely on trailers to get hens from farms to rehoming points and, whilst they serve a purpose, this limits the number of birds we can save from slaughter.
New transport will mean our precious cargo is fully secure inside with heating to keep them cosy in winter and cool ventilation for warmer weather.
Please will you donate to fund a van for hens?
Your support previously funded a new van for our Midlands team back in 2010 and you also rallied around in 2020 when our Devon van broke down completely – within weeks you helped us raise over £30,000 to buy a new one.
The sooner we raise the £20,000 needed, the sooner we can start saving even more lives, and we are entirely reliant on the generosity of you, our supporters, to make this a reality.
Thank you.

“When we lost our previous van to a fire, BHWT supporters were incredible in coming forward and helping us buy a new one so that no hens’ lives were lost. As a driver for the Devon team, I can’t begin to say how much easier the job is with a van that’s purpose-built for this important job.
“No trying to work out how the trailer fits to your car; no scrabbling around in another vehicle to see whether you have a first aid kit (for the chickens!) or a tissue (for you!)

"Ventilation and air conditioning are already taken care of so no worrying in case the chickens get sun burned or frost bitten or drenched in rain. And as for the tail lift … heaven! No more poorly backs the next day.
“But the best bit? It is bigger than a trailer. We can save more chickens. We can travel wider and further.
“I will be making a donation. Can you?”
Devon volunteer, Emma
