Whether you are a seasoned runner or just starting out, donning those trainers and pounding those pavements is an easy way to get fit and have fun – and you can raise money for hens at the same time! So, what are you waiting for? Perhaps you need a little inspiration.
Seven year old Freddie and his mum Clare got off the sofa this February and ran 5 kilometres in the name of hen welfare. They raised a huge £230 through sponsorship!
Wonderful long-time supporter and runny egg Ben Wickham ran last year’s London Marathon, raising an enormous £1,399.40. Not only did Ben save many hens from slaughter, but he also raised awareness of the British Hen Welfare Trust and hen welfare in the UK by sporting his fantastic BHWT vest (see below).
The Ultimate Challenge
John Melbourne completed a gruelling 97-mile run and raised an incredible £515! He took on the Heroes Ultra Crete 2016 in May last year and finished in FIRST place!
Feeling inspired? Wondering where to start your runny egg? As you can see from our brilliant supporters above, it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a seasoned runner training for your next marathon, there are so many options available. Take a look at the following options to see if anything takes your fancy:
- Take on a Couch to 5K challenge (e.g. this programme from the NHS)
- Take part in a parkrun event (free, weekly, 5km timed runs: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/)
- Run whenever you feel like it with a virtual run! (https://www.bhwt.org.uk/virtual/)
- Enter a running event (e.g. The Great North Run, TrailFest, London Marathon)
And don’t let the daunting task of raising sponsorship put you off – we are here to support you all the way. We have a variety of means to share your fundraising pages and help raise donations for your run, including social media and our newsletters. We can send sponsorship forms in the post, along with charity materials to show your friends and family so they can understand the work we do. Even a small amount from each of your friends can make a huge difference to our work.
