Help spread the word!
Social media is a brilliant way to spread the word about our hen rehomings, fundraisers and encourage more donations. Here are some suggested posts and graphics you can use on your channels.
These posts have been put together to help you promote upcoming hen rehomings in your area on local Facebook community pages / groups. There is a general post that can be used well in advance of a rehoming day and a more urgent post if hen numbers are still low in the 7-10 days before a rehoming. The posts will be updated monthly so the content you are promoting in local groups remains original. Please do not edit the image as it uses branding consistent with the BHWT. The text is there for inspiration but, of course, feel free to make it your own, and be sure to include the relevant area and date for your next rehoming in the space provided.
Volunteer appeals
If your volunteer team needs a top up we’ve got some draft text and images which you can share below on your local social groups and news feeds. Simply copy and paste the text and right click to save the images. If you have any queries simply email marketing@bhwt.org.uk and we’ll get right back to you.
General appeal
Do you have a passion for animals and some time to spare at the weekend? If so, we’ve got your next volunteering role sorted. Supporting the British Hen Welfare Trust’s rehoming team in your area means you get to send hundreds of hens off to become much-loved pets, instead of facing slaughter.
These hardworking ex-commercial laying hens deserve a free-range retirement, and you can play a vital part in making that a reality for them. If you have some time spare every few months on a Saturday or Sunday to spend surrounded by flapping wings and feathers, we’d love you to join our team as our next rehoming volunteer.

Drivers appeal
We urgently need drivers to help us with our vital work saving hens from slaughter, otherwise we may have to resort to the above and get the hens to drive themselves!
Can you help? Do you have a horse trailer, stock trailer, medium or large Transit type van, or a tow bar, and be willing to pull a trailer, or would you drive one of our Luton vans? Driving involves going to farms with our catching teams, loading hens in crates onto the vehicle, and transferring them to our adoption host sites before sending them off to their new family homes as pets.
Hen rehoming takes place six to eight times per year, and there is no obligation to attend every time (although a commitment to at least six a year is desirable). We pay mileage and expenses. Volunteering gives you a wonderful feel-good factor - you’ll meet like-minded animal lovers and will, quite literally, be saving lives.
