Rehoming your flock
Sometimes circumstances mean that you need to find a new home for your flock of hens.
The British Hen Welfare Trust cannot take the hens unfortunately as we only rehome ex-commercial laying hens from farms. We are not a poultry sanctuary and therefore do not have the facilities to hold hens.
However, please have a look at the list below to see if any of these suggestions may help you.
- If you are able to rehome them locally, at least you will be able to check that their new home is safe and suitable
- Put a card up at your local vet or a pet shop where you and other poultry keepers purchase the hen food
- Contact a local poultry club
- There may be council allotments near you where hens are kept
- Google for any animal rescue centres in your area or children’s petting farms
- There may be a local community Facebook page where you can put up a post – this may be the fastest and easiest way BUT please consider not putting the hens up as ‘free to good home’.
- If you have any cockerels, please note that we do not rehome flocks including cockerels, but you can find advice and advertise your cockerel for a small donation through our Cockerel Adoption page.
If there is any advice that we can offer to help you to keep your hens, please do contact us.
