Forget Chocolate Eggs, This Easter It’s All About Fundraising for Hens!

Jo Bell has clocked up some serious mileage by taking on long-distance runs and walks for charities over the years.

Now, she’s using all her experience to raise funds for the British Hen Welfare Trust by tackling an ultramarathon this April.

Jo, 54, is hoping to raise £100 for the charity by taking part in the Ultra Challenge Easter 50, a 50km loop that starts and ends at Windsor Racecourse.

“It should take around eight hours to complete it,” said Jo, from Reading. “That’s how long it took when I did the Chiltern 50 in September, but that was quite hilly – hopefully this will be a lot flatter!”

Alongside the Chiltern 50, Jo has done the Virtual London Marathon over the past two years and is a regular walker, although normally sticks to 5k distances in between challenges.

She was even running in the hills in Gran Canaria while on holiday recently, in preparation for the 50k – now that’s dedication!

Jo told us why she wanted to raise money for the BHWT:

I’ve always followed the charity and I just think hens are so overlooked; I don’t think they get as much attention as other animals like dogs and cats. I just think it’s great that you rehome so many. I like to challenge myself and it’s a nice way to raise money for charity. It would be nice to reach £100, but I’m just trying to raise whatever I can, so I’ll be speaking to friends and family soon to get them on board.

Thank you, Jo, for your effort – you’ll definitely have earned your Easter eggs this year!
