Avril has been a source of admiration for me and although I have had many hens (I always seem to take a poorly one from most rescues), Avril has certainly become rather special.
We've had Bayleaf for four years now, and she's five and a half years old. For ages she was the omega girl of a flock of 12 hens, but she's slowly risen through the ranks to become a leader of her own little gang.
We have had an egg nearly every day from Hetty since she started laying again after her last moult. In her younger days she used to jump/flap over a four foot fence and get into my veg and flowers!
We first acquired 4 hens, including Prunella, last September from Camelford. Little did we realise at that time what wonderful characters they are!
Toffee once found herself in a run with about 30 other chickens. How was her owner Molly able to tell her apart?!
Edna was the gutsyest little character who survived a Fox attack in dramatic fashion!
Vera started life after being re-homed with 9 other feathered ladies to her new home on our hillside overlooking Lower Nidderdale in North Yorkshire.
